Outdoor Learning Week โ€” Mud, Maps and Magnifiers

A full week of forest school, treasure hunts and pond dipping. Here's everything our team got up to.

Outdoor Learning Week โ€” Mud, Maps and Magnifiers

Outdoor Learning Week is one of the highlights of our year, and 2026 did not disappoint. With wellies on and waterproofs zipped, the whole nursery decamped to the church gardens for five days of mud, maps and magnifiers.

Our Tuesday treasure hunt sent every child off with a hand-drawn map and a wooden token to find. The look on their faces as they unearthed the painted pebbles will stay with us for a long time. By Wednesday we had moved on to pond dipping โ€” frogspawn, water boatmen and even a curious newt made an appearance.

We finished the week with a campfire snack of toasted oats and apple. A huge thank you to the parent volunteers who joined us on Thursday and Friday โ€” your help made the small-group adventures possible.

Photos from the week are now in the parent portal. Have a scroll when you get a quiet moment.
